Our readers are active, engaged Albertans who are interested in health and wellness, travel, food, home, community connections, finances, lifestyle, personal growth and making the most of every stage of life.

We welcome thoughtful, informative and inspiring stories that reflect our mission: helping Albertans thrive, connect and live well.

Article Pitches

All article ideas must be pitched and approved before an article is written.

Your pitch should include:

  • Proposed article title or topic

  • A brief summary of the story (2–3 paragraphs)

  • Why the topic is relevant to Alberta Senior Living readers

  • Proposed sources/interview subjects (if applicable)

  • Your estimated timeline for completion

Article Length

Most feature articles will be between 600 and 1,200 words. Word counts may vary depending on the assignment and editorial needs.

Articles should be:

  • Clear, engaging and accessible

  • Written for an Alberta audience aged 55+

  • Informative while maintaining a warm, conversational tone

  • Free of unnecessary jargon or overly technical language

Writing Style

Alberta Senior Living values storytelling that feels authentic, positive and reader-focused.

Strong submissions typically:

  • Lead with an engaging introduction

  • Include personal stories, examples or expert insights

  • Provide practical information readers can use

  • Avoid overly promotional language unless the article is specifically created as sponsored content

  • Reflect Alberta’s diverse communities, lifestyles and experiences

Originality & Publication Rights

Submitted articles must be original work and not previously published elsewhere unless otherwise approved.

By submitting an article, authors grant Alberta Senior Living permission to edit, publish and promote the article in print, online and through Alberta Senior Living’s marketing channels.

Authors retain ownership of their work.

Research, Sources & Accuracy

Authors are responsible for ensuring that all information provided is accurate, current and properly sourced.

Please:

  • Verify facts, statistics and claims

  • Provide source information for research-based articles

  • Identify interview subjects and include contact information when requested

  • Obtain permission before submitting personal stories or photographs involving others

Photos & Images

Authors should submit high-quality, original photos whenever possible.

Please include:

  • Photo credits

  • Captions and names of people pictured

  • Confirmation that submitted images may be published

Images should be high resolution and suitable for print (300 dpi preferred).

Author Information

All contributors must submit:

Author headshot:

A clear, high-resolution photo suitable for publication.

Author bio:

A brief biography of no more than 100 words. Bios should include relevant professional experience, credentials or personal connection to the topic.

Use of Artificial Intelligence (AI)

Authors may use AI tools for research assistance, brainstorming or editing support; however, all submitted content must be original, fact-checked and reflect the author’s own expertise, perspective and voice.

Authors are responsible for reviewing and verifying any information generated or assisted by AI tools before submission.

Sponsored Content & Editorial Independence

Alberta Senior Living welcomes partnerships with organizations and businesses that support our readers and communities.

Content submitted by businesses, organizations or advertisers may be considered for sponsored content opportunities. Sponsored content is clearly identified and handled separately from independent editorial coverage.

Editorial features are selected based on relevance, reader value and alignment with Alberta Senior Living’s mission. Advertising relationships do not guarantee editorial coverage.

Compensation

Compensation may be available for select assignments and will be discussed directly with the Publisher prior to writing.

Editing

All articles are subject to editorial review and may be edited for clarity, length, style, accuracy and consistency with Alberta Senior Living’s editorial standards.

Final decisions regarding headlines, formatting, images, placement and publication timing are made by the Alberta Senior Living editorial team.

Submission Deadlines

Article assignments and deadlines will be provided by the editorial team upon acceptance.

Due to production timelines, late submissions may be moved to a future issue or declined.
