Foot Pain? Three Simple Exercises for Relief
By Jill Gaumont
If you suffer from foot pain, adding a few simple exercises to your routine can make a noticeable difference. Our feet do so much for us every day, yet they rarely get the care and attention they deserve. Whether your aches come from long walks, busy days on your feet, or just the natural wear and tear of life, a little movement can go a long way in keeping them happy. With a few easy exercises, you can help improve strength, flexibility, and comfort, and maybe even put a little spring back in your step. Here are three to try:
Single Leg Calf Stretch
Place the ball of your right foot across a rolled towel. Step forward with your left foot just enough to feel a gentle stretch sensation in the back of the calf. Hold for 1 minute, then switch sides.
Top of the Foot Stretch
Shift your weight into your left leg, and point the right foot back behind you. The toes should curl into a fist. This may cause cramping! Hold for 1 minute, then switch sides.
Passive Toe Spreading
Seated in a chair, cross your right ankle on your left knee, and interlace the fingers of your left hand through the toes of your right foot. Gently move the toes forward and back. Hold for one minute, then switch sides.
Tips
Do these exercises daily, especially after long periods of standing or walking.
If pain persists, consult a healthcare professional.
Consider switching to shoes with a minimal sole and a wide toe box!
With just a few minutes each day, you can help ease foot pain and keep moving comfortably.
