I Was a Skeptic... Until This Happened: Martin’s Peripheral Neuropathy Recovery

If you had asked me a year ago whatI thought about acupuncture, I would have told you—honestly—I didn’t believe in it.
I’m Martin, and I consider myself a practical, evidence-based person. I trusted western medicine, and I was skeptical of anything that sounded like an “alternative.”But life has a way of challenging your assumptions.
In 2024, I went through one of the most difficult years of my life. I suffered a serious, nearly fatal heart attack. Thankfully, I recovered well enough within seven months to undergo a full hip replacement surgery. It was a long road, but by early 2025, I was finally starting to feel like myself again. Then, out of nowhere, something new started.
I noticed a strange loss of feeling in the sole of my foot. At first, I didn’t think much of it. But then the same sensation appeared in my other foot.
And it didn’t go away. In fact, it got worse.
The best way I can describe it is this: it felt like I was walking around in heavy, cold clay sandals all the time. It was constant, uncomfortable, and very concerning. On top of that, I had numbness, tingling, and pain in my feet.
Days turned into weeks. Weeks turned into months. I wasn’t improving, I was getting worse. It wasn’t going away by itself.
That’s when my wife suggested I look into acupuncture. She had come across a patient's story that sounded very similar to what I was going through. I’ll admit, I was hesitant. I didn’t want to jump into something without fully understanding it, especially given everything I had already been through medically.
I decided to gather information and book my consultation. That first appointment changed my perspective.
What stood out to me immediately was how professional and straightforward the consultation was.
There were no unrealistic promises. No pressure. Just a clear explanation of what might be going on.
Dr. Melanie Morrill, Dr. Ac, assessed my idiopathic neuropathy and walked me through a treatment plan. She explained what it would involve, how long it would take, and what kind of results I could realistically expect.
Most importantly, she gave me time to think about it. I didn’t feel rushed into a decision. I went home, did my research, spoke with my doctor, and carefully considered my options.
I decided to move forward with treatment. Looking back now, I’m very glad I did.
As of December 2025, I’ve completed a series of acupuncture treatments, with more scheduled aspart of the plan. Throughout the entire process, I’ve been consistently impressed, not just with the care itself, but with the people.
The staff at Accessible Acupuncture are knowledgeable, professional, and genuinely kind. That matters more than you might think when you’re dealing with a condition that affects your daily life.
But what matters most is this: I’ve improved significantly. Today, I’m able to walk comfortably again.
I can go up and down stairs without needing a banister. I’m back at the gym. I can ride a bicycle, do my yard work, handle daily tasks, and live my life the way I did before these symptoms started.
I don’t have pain anymore. There’s still a slight tingling in the soles of my feet, but compared to where I was, it’s a dramatic improvement.
If you had told me a year ago that I’d be saying this about acupuncture, I wouldn’t have believed you. But hereI am.
I’ve also learned that acupuncture, when done properly, is not invasive or intimidating. It’s a straightforward, low-risk treatment that, in my case, delivered real results.
There are no guarantees. But if you’re dealing with neuropathy like I was, I believe it’s worth serious, honest consideration.
Don’t wait and hope it goes away on its own. That’s what I did at first, and it only got worse.
